Readers may not even notice when conventions are well done, but they often distract from good ideas and interesting that stories that are carefully planned when they are incorrect. Conventions are the most mechanical of the six traits and require writers to learn editing and proofreading skills with which to methodically look over their work. The trick is to read what's really written not just what you meant to write.
